About the role

  • Credit risk analytics co-op student supporting Sun Life’s global financial services operations. Developing risk methodologies, reporting, model validation, and portfolio analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and enhancement of Earnings-at-Risk and Capital-at-Risk methodologies for credit-sensitive assets
  • Assist with regular and ad hoc credit risk reporting across asset classes, business groups, and enterprise portfolios
  • Analyze portfolio data and help maintain risk analytics infrastructure and reporting tools
  • Support model validation, stress testing, scenario analysis, and documentation activities
  • Help monitor risk limits, investigate exceptions, and track remediation activities
  • Prepare presentations and summaries for risk management, investment teams, and senior leaders
  • Research emerging topics in credit risk, including climate risk, counterparty risk, and regulatory developments
  • Contribute to process automation and data quality improvement initiatives
  • Work with investments, risk management, and actuarial teams

Requirements

  • Graduation date of January 2027 or later
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in financial markets and risk management
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
  • Experience using Excel and familiarity with data analysis tools
  • Curiosity, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new concepts
  • Programming experience in Python, R, SQL, VBA, or similar tools is an asset but not required
  • Coursework or knowledge related to investments, accounting, risk management, statistics, or actuarial science is an asset
  • Exposure to IFRS 9, IFRS 17, Basel, LICAT, or other financial risk frameworks is preferred
  • Knowledge of fixed income markets, credit ratings, or portfolio analytics is preferred
  • Experience with Power BI or Tableau is preferred
  • Familiarity with financial risk software or modeling platforms is preferred
