About the role

  • Classification Officer strengthening Canada’s Paralympic system for a nonprofit supporting athletes with disabilities. Leading national, international, and Games-related classification strategy, education, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of programming aligned with the CPC’s strategic priorities
  • Provide classification guidance, support, and education to athletes, stakeholders, members, and performance partners
  • Develop training and resources addressing classification gaps
  • Work with National Sport Organizations to ensure athletes complete required classifications and resolve related issues
  • Collaborate with the Paralympic performance team, Performance Sciences, Research and Innovation Advisor, Athlete Services, and performance partners on evidence-based classification solutions
  • Ensure classification services and programming use an athlete-centric approach
  • Contribute to and implement multi-year classification plans, targets, and budgets
  • Build partnerships and manage relationships with international stakeholders, including International Federations, National Paralympic Committees, officials, volunteers, advisory groups, and IPC departments
  • Lead Canada’s compliance with the IPC Classification Code
  • Lead Canada’s involvement in future reviews of the IPC Athlete Classification Code and related documents
  • Lead the CPC’s national classification strategy and implement recommendations
  • Support development of classification medical expert networks and Visual Impairment Classification plans
  • Develop tools, resources, webpages, and education materials for classification audiences
  • Engage with IPCs, IFs, and NPCs on classification protocols, processes, reviews, and best practices
  • Support international classifier training and athletes’ international classification
  • Coordinate Games-specific classification strategies and provide advice during Games

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in kinesiology or sport management, or equivalent experience in a similar position with a sport organization or as an athlete or a coach
  • 3–5 years of experience working in a leadership capacity in sport in Canada
  • Experience working in a National Sport Organization
  • Experience working in multi-sport Games environments
  • Experience as a Paralympian is considered an asset
  • Strong sport technical knowledge, including the Canadian Sport system and the International Olympic and Paralympic Sport System
  • Strong understanding of classification
  • Strong understanding of the IPC, National Paralympic Committees, and other countries’ sport systems
  • Strong understanding of the Games environment
  • Ability to understand complex environments and solve problems
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, deliver, and review targeted initiatives and adapt to change
  • Ability to manage relationships and collaborate with internal and external colleagues
  • Proficiency with office applications, including email, project planning, databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation development
  • Ability to communicate in Canada’s two official languages is considered a strong asset
  • Methodical, organized, self-directed, disciplined, innovative, analytical, results-oriented, cooperative, collaborative, and detail-oriented
