About the role

  • Commercial Space Designer creating 2D/3D office furniture layouts, renderings, and quotes for Tayco, a modern office furniture manufacturer. Supporting sales growth and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customers with timely design solutions, product recommendations, and pricing information
  • Work closely with the sales team to grow existing customers and develop new customer base
  • Facilitate the order process through understanding Tayco’s offerings and finishes
  • Generate approximately 90 quotes per month and/or manage half a territory
  • Contact customers to gather project information, specifications, and requirements
  • Prioritize quotation requests according to dealer tiers, customer requested dates, and first-in-first-out basis
  • Plan 2D and 3D drawings, colored renderings, and parts lists
  • Filter special requests through the Engineering Decision Tree and consult Engineering for custom requests
  • Review drawings and parts lists for accuracy
  • Obtain material up-charge information from Purchasing or Engineering
  • Present final drawings, pricing, and project information to customers
  • Recommend items to improve customer satisfaction and transaction profitability
  • Increase sales and average order size through cross-selling, up-selling, add-on sales, and promotional items
  • Educate customers on product terminology, features, and benefits
  • Coordinate with Customer Service and Order Analysts from quote to order
  • Cover orders and territories for team members during absences
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Degree, Diploma, or Certificate from a post-secondary institution; or two years experience in Interior Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field
  • Previous Project Management experience is considered an asset
  • Ability to read, interpret, and re-create Architectural Drawings/Floor Plans and written specifications
  • Knowledge of CET, Auto CAD, 20-20, Giza, rendering software, Microsoft Word, Excel/Lotus, and email
  • Capacity to learn new computer programs, adapt to a changing environment, and handle multiple tasks
  • Clear, polite, and friendly speaking manner; excellent phone skills; good listening, spelling, and grammar skills
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work as a team and communicate with co-workers; leadership skills and empathy
  • Ability to perform arithmetic using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Understanding of basic geometry and basic algebra
  • Common-sense understanding and rationalization to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions
  • Ability to troubleshoot and negotiate in complex and crisis situations
  • Knowledge of the industry, product, space planning, and the entire order process
  • Approximately two years of experience is an alternative to the post-secondary credential
