About the role
- Senior Java Developer designing high-performance Java applications at Tecsys, a supply chain technology provider. Solving complex backend problems within Agile teams serving healthcare and logistics businesses.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java applications within an Agile team.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and understand requirements to code solutions.
- Own complex technical problems end-to-end, from analysis and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Shape architecture and technical direction, challenging proposed solutions when more pragmatic or sustainable alternatives exist.
- Review code and provide feedback to improve quality, maintainability, and performance.
- Mentor less experienced developers through pairing, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
- Identify technical debt and quality risks and help prioritize remediation.
- Collaborate with Tech Leads, Product Owners, and QA to turn ambiguous requirements into shippable solutions.
- Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools while maintaining accountability for design, quality, security, and correctness.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Agile methodologies, tools, practices, and teamwork.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 5–7+ years building backend applications in Java.
- Experience with JUnit, relational databases (PostgreSQL a plus), and standard tooling (Git, Maven, a modern IDE).
- A track record of mentoring developers and giving constructive code review feedback.
- Strong engineering judgment — you weigh trade-offs and land on pragmatic, maintainable solutions.
- Solid grasp of clean code, automated testing, and managing technical debt.
- Hands-on experience with REST services and API architecture.
- Comfort using AI-assisted or agentic dev tools, with full ownership of what you ship.
- Strong proficiency in both written and verbal English communication essential for effective correspondence with clients, suppliers, business partners and colleagues beyond the province of Quebec.
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Canada, or hold a valid Canadian work permit.
