About the role

Engineering co-op supporting Thales ship systems design, integration, commissioning, and production issue resolution. Working across Vancouver shipyards, customer, suppliers, and Ottawa engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Provide Shipyard Systems and Installation Engineering Support for assigned NSS projects
Solve design issues and proposed baseline changes arising during production and commissioning through engagement with engineering resources, the customer, suppliers, production teams, and other stakeholders
Provide engineering support to installation, STW, HAT, SAT, tests, and inspections
Support Engineering Change Process Work Items
Support the on-site technical team and collaborate with the Ottawa project team and customer to resolve production issues
Create high-level conceptual designs and scalable solutions for changes to ship designs
Ensure agreement on top-level solution documentation
Ensure Thales Engineering Data correctly flows down to Integrated Product Team members
Support verification and validation of electronic systems
Assist in risk management and mitigation strategies
Assist in obtaining stakeholder agreement about system requirement changes and management
Support Systems Engineering and Commissioning activities, including system integration, inspections, system power-on, and configuration

Currently enrolled in an Electrical, Systems, or Mechanical Engineering program at an accredited university
Currently studying in 3rd year of study
Involved in design projects, specifically electronic and/or mechanical systems
High level oral and written communication skills for report writing, design justification documentation, and customer interaction
Willing to work on-site in the shipyard in production and commissioning environments
Experience in the Systems Engineering Life Cycle
High level of planning, task management, analytical, and time management skills
Experience reading and understanding mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology, or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, ITAR, or EAR
Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment
Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level
Must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for access under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and obtain a Canadian NATO Secret clearance
Minimal lifting of test and electronic equipment and connecting equipment in a lab environment or job site
Some overnight travel may be required (<10%)
