Naval Architecture co-op student supporting Thales Canada’s Royal Canadian Navy ship programs. Conducting technical investigations, documentation, audits, and compliance activities across hybrid sites.
Responsibilities
Support Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy
Provide technical support to various ships and assets of the Royal Canadian Navy
Investigate problems associated with ship equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development
Prepare and review technical documentation and support baseline documentation updates
Support technical data package validation and physical configuration audits
Prepare and update design change documentation, manufacturing drawings, installation instructions, and test and trials documentation
Prepare documented work scopes for quotations from external resources
Conduct naval architecture tasks including requirements analysis, material compatibility investigations, maintenance documentation review, failure analysis, risk and hazard assessments, and weight and moment assessments
Support management of lifting appliance certification and testing
Assure compliance with hull-related Classification Society, Naval Ship Code, and Polar Code requirements
Report to the MWAV Systems Engineering Manager and support Thales Engineering staff
Requirements
Student enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering Program at a Canadian university, focused on Naval Architecture
English language proficiency is essential
Senior student in Naval Architectural Engineering preferred; junior students will also be considered
Access to a personal vehicle required for travel to and from the work site
Must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for access to Canadian-controlled technical information
Must be eligible for or able to obtain Canadian Controlled Goods Program authorization
Able to obtain a Canadian NATO Secret clearance
May be required to work in dockyards and onboard Naval ships in Halifax or Victoria
May be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces involving bending and twisting
