About the role
- Energy reporter covering Ottawa’s energy policy, politics and business for The Globe and Mail. Filing breaking news, scoops and enterprise stories from the hybrid Ottawa bureau.
Responsibilities
- Cover breaking and live economic and energy policy news from Ottawa
- Frequently pitch fresh, compelling story ideas
- Develop and maintain sources in government and business
- Write clearly and concisely on deadline
- Collaborate with colleagues across the department and newsroom to generate story ideas and enrich coverage
- File source-based scoops, breaking and scheduled news, enterprise reporting, and features
- Work with the Ottawa bureau and Western Canada bureaus
- Participate in Globe subscriber events
- Think beyond standard storytelling formats
Requirements
- At least five years’ experience as a reporter in a daily news organization
- Solid news judgment with a track record of enterprise work
- Ability to translate economic policy into engaging prose
- Familiarity with political reporting and economics
- Strong writing with versatile range, from hard news to human-interest features to explanatory journalism
- Comfortable working in live blogs, newsletters, video and audio formats
- Submit a cover letter with three links to previous work and a resume written by the applicant, not AI
