Occupational Therapist delivering trauma therapy, assessments, and return-to-work care at The Newly Institute’s Canadian mental health clinic. Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across specialized programs.
Responsibilities
Perform assessments, in vivo exposure, group facilitation, return to work planning, and 1-1 occupational therapy treatment for mental health conditions
Work with clients in WorkSafeBC Return to Work, RCMP, Intensive Outpatient, and Flex programs
Provide individual trauma therapy
Conduct clinical client assessments, including mental health history, risk assessment, trauma, and activities of daily living
Facilitate psychoeducation groups based on ACT, in-vivo exposure, sleep education, DBT skills, mindfulness, and other topics
Provide resource-based interventions, case management and coordination, transition, or discharge planning occasionally
Assist in grounding and reflection after psychopharmacological treatment rarely
Participate in weekly case consultations and complex case discussions with an interdisciplinary team
Share client caseloads with other therapists and communicate regularly regarding client care
Attend relevant clinical meetings and participate in professional consultation and supervision
Complete same-day session notes and timely reports
Provide reporting to third parties and community referral sources
Communicate effectively with employers and case managers
Participate in mental health promotion activities and contribute to community mental health and addictions resources
Perform other responsibilities related to the role and scope of work as assigned
Requirements
Minimum of two years of experience supporting clients with mental health conditions, including assessment/triage and treatment
Experience supporting first responders is an asset
Experience working with third-party funders is an asset
Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy is required
Training certificates in trauma therapy, specifically Prolonged Exposure Therapy, is an asset
Active registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia is required
Professional liability insurance is required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
Employment reference checks and a clear police background check inclusive of vulnerable sectors are required as conditions of the offer
