About the role

  • Medical education administrator coordinating surgical residency schedules, examinations, recruitment, and accreditation. Supporting the University of Alberta’s postgraduate surgical education program.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary contact and resource for residency program residents and faculty
  • Liaise with the Postgraduate Medical Education Office, Professional Association of Residents of Alberta, and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
  • Coordinate educational activities and clinical rotation scheduling for residents
  • Prepare resident training block schedules, electives, vacation/leaves, and coordinate teaching faculty and preceptors
  • Maintain evaluation systems, compile data, and collect and disseminate reports and documents
  • Coordinate and attend Residency Program Committee and Competence Committee meetings
  • Prepare agendas, reports, and documentation with the Program Director and Competence Committee Chair
  • Coordinate annual resident recruitment through the Canadian Medical Graduate Selection process
  • Schedule and proctor examinations, prepare exam materials, recruit examiners, and track exam results
  • Serve as primary contact/resource for internal and external accreditation processes
  • Ensure Royal College accreditation standards are met in day-to-day operations and residency program committee functions
  • Maintain residency program websites and communications
  • Attend after-hours oral exams and minute evening meetings approximately 12 times per year

Requirements

  • Minimum post-secondary business, office administration certificate or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a large academic, health care or related organization
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Google Applications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality and diplomacy
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience with Zoom and various virtual platforms is an asset
  • Knowledge of University of Alberta and University of Alberta Hospital is preferred
  • Experience with PeopleSoft is an asset
  • Experience with University of Alberta policies and processes and employment legislation (FOIPP, Employment Standards) is an asset
  • Ability to attend after-hours oral exams and minute evening meetings approximately 12 times per year
