Research Partner supporting University of Alberta researchers with grant proposals, funding strategy, and research administration. Advising faculties, resolving policy issues, and coordinating proposal-development training.
Responsibilities
Assist researchers in all aspects of research proposal development
Advise deans, department managers, senior administrators, researchers, and staff on research administration matters, policies, exceptions, and issue resolution
Help faculties develop, implement, and manage research policy-related procedures
Coordinate, promote, and deliver training on research development and administration best practices, policies, and procedures
Develop research administration data and analytics for leadership decision-making
Resolve research administration and research development issues and concerns
Collaborate with research administration partners, specialists, senior research partners, external funding organizations, and central staff
Build and maintain relationships with faculties, departments, researchers, collaborators, funding organizations, industry sponsors, and university support units
Provide strategic advice, coaching, and hands-on assistance for grant applications and proposals from idea through submission
Develop educational opportunities and materials related to sponsor-specific grant-writing success
Identify and distribute funding opportunities and recommend research partnerships and collaborations
Provide expert proposal development support to individual researchers and cohorts
Coordinate and deliver faculty-specific, institution-wide, and competition-specific proposal development support
Coordinate Research Partner Network supports with VPRI Centres of Expertise and other university units
Requirements
A Graduate degree required; equivalent combination(s) of training and experience may be considered
Minimum five years of relevant work experience, ideally in an academic research environment
Detailed knowledge of the integrated research enterprise model and research administration continuum
Experience developing, writing, and/or editing research funding applications and proposals
Solid understanding of federal and provincial research funding environments, agency mandates, culture, opportunities, and guidelines
Experience identifying, developing, and delivering training opportunities
Computer/IT skills relevant to today’s work environment, including Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Google Suite, and Zoom
Excellent active listening, oral, and written communication skills
Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Excellent time management skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and competing deadlines
Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to analyze problems, assess alternatives and consequences, select solutions, and implement them successfully
Experience working independently within a large institutional environment
Demonstrated effective collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups
Fluency in French, spoken and written, is an asset
