About the role
- Senior IT Systems Engineer improving Okta, Google Workspace, JumpCloud, and SaaS systems for Upsun’s cloud application platform. Automating employee lifecycle processes and supporting security compliance across a remote global workforce.
Responsibilities
- Improve identity and access services using Okta, including single sign-on, automated account provisioning, multi-factor authentication, access policies, and emergency access
- Lead administration and improvement of Google Workspace, including users, groups, Gmail, Drive, shared drives, and security settings
- Help lead rollout and ongoing development of JumpCloud device management across macOS, Windows, and Linux
- Define and implement device configurations, security policies, software deployment, and onboarding processes with IT Operations and Security
- Design and improve onboarding, role changes, and offboarding across identity, devices, and SaaS tools
- Use Okta Workflows, n8n, Python, and APIs to reduce manual work and improve process reliability
- Assess systems, identify gaps, investigate complex issues across connected services, address root causes, and implement improvements
- Administer core internal tools and evaluate new applications
- Establish practices for application setup, integrations, access requests, approvals, and access reviews
- Partner with Security and Risk and Audit to implement and maintain controls supporting ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2
- Automate evidence collection where practical
- Lead projects from scoping and technical design through rollout and handover
- Coordinate dependencies, communicate risks and progress, and mentor colleagues through documentation, reviews, and knowledge sharing
- Report to the IT Director
Requirements
- Hands-on experience across identity, collaboration tools, endpoint management, and SaaS administration
- Strong expertise in at least one of Okta, Google Workspace, or JumpCloud, with ability to work across the others
- Experience deploying or significantly improving an MDM or endpoint management platform
- Ability to translate security and operational requirements into workable configurations, test them, and roll them out with minimal disruption
- Experience building reliable automation using workflow tools, APIs, webhooks, and Python or a comparable scripting language
- Understanding of error handling, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance
- Track record of assessing, improving, and delivering systems or processes with clear results
- Ability to work independently, make sound technical decisions, explain trade-offs, and take ownership
- Experience implementing controls such as access reviews, secure configurations, or device policies
- Understanding of documenting and demonstrating that security controls work
- Clear communication and collaboration in a fully remote, multicultural team
- Typically six or more years in IT engineering, systems administration, identity, or endpoint management, with increasing responsibility for technical decisions and project delivery
- Equivalent experience is considered more important than a specific number of years
- Legally authorized to work in Canada, France, Germany, Spain, or the United Kingdom
- Background check required
- Professional proficiency in French is a bonus
