About the role

  • Project Environmental Lead overseeing environmental aspects in powerline construction projects across Canada. Involved in compliance management, quality assurance, and environmental reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret environmental requirements and applicable legislation as outlined in project documents and permits, including the Project EMS, CEMP, and contract
  • Implement environmental compliance programs on projects, including developing and implementing Environmental Protection and Mitigation Plans
  • Support continuous improvement of Valard's Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Manual
  • Proactively identify and report any major or unforeseen environmental issues to the Project or Environmental Manager; ensure any direction from client representatives or regulators is reviewed and approved by the Construction Manager or Project Manager prior to implementation
  • Track and maintain permit applications and renewal status
  • Support wildlife sweeps, including amphibians, birds, reptiles, mammals, and fish sampling activities
  • Develop and submit accurate, timely, and complete environmental deliverables in accordance with Valard's EMS and project and regulatory requirements
  • Manage environmental risks and respond to environmental incidents as required; ensure construction teams receive ongoing environmental awareness

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Biology or a related field (e.g. Environmental Sciences or Forestry)
  • 5 years of experience in construction environmental monitoring
  • Technical knowledge of environmental management practices related to water, wildlife (fish, mammals, herptiles, vegetation), and waste management
  • Demonstrated ability to draft wildlife-specific mitigation plans
  • Strong experience in environmental data management and reporting
  • Valid driver's licence and a satisfactory Driver's Abstract
  • Experience on large-scale industrial projects in Canada
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial environmental regulations and permitting processes
  • Experience with wildlife mitigations on Canadian projects
