About the role

  • Engineering Lead driving performance, resilience, and observability quality for Vancity’s member-owned credit union platforms. Leading Performance SDETs and embedding automation into CI/CD.

Responsibilities

  • Translate non-functional quality engineering strategy, standards, and technical direction into executable plans
  • Design and implement scalable, data-driven validation for performance, resilience, availability, and scalability objectives
  • Develop quality engineering metrics, instrumentation, KPIs, and CI/CD feedback loops
  • Implement quality gates within Dev-owned CI/CD pipelines
  • Develop enterprise approaches for representative performance and resilience-testing datasets, including synthetic data generation, masking, and anonymization
  • Improve monitoring, logging, tracing, and telemetry capabilities using observability platforms
  • Support release-readiness reviews by validating non-functional quality requirements and operational risks
  • Provide senior technical leadership as a first-among-equals individual contributor within the Performance SDET community
  • Influence, guide, and coach Performance SDETs through hands-on coding, design, engineering, and analysis
  • Design, develop, and review performance-testing frameworks, automation, tooling, and utilities
  • Establish repeatable load, stress, endurance, spike, capacity, and volume testing approaches
  • Develop realistic workload models representing member behavior, application usage patterns, and transaction profiles
  • Build reusable tooling and pipelines embedding performance testing into continuous delivery
  • Analyze performance bottlenecks across applications, APIs, databases, integrations, and infrastructure
  • Define performance SLAs, SLOs, and system-capacity targets with engineering teams
  • Implement AI-assisted and agentic testing approaches for performance-test framework coverage, speed, and maintainability
  • Lead resilience testing through fault injection, failure simulation, and chaos engineering
  • Validate disaster recovery, failover, high availability, and business continuity capabilities
  • Establish resilience-validation standards for cloud-native and distributed architectures
  • Support incident post-mortems and root-cause analysis, translating learnings into engineering practices and automated validation
  • Partner with engineering leadership, product teams, and engineering teams to improve quality engineering and site reliability maturity
  • Advocate for shift-left performance and reliability engineering practices
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI-assisted testing and intelligent quality-engineering techniques

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, performance engineering, site reliability engineering, quality engineering, or a related field
  • Extensive experience leading enterprise-scale non-functional testing initiatives as a senior technical contributor or Performance SDET
  • Deep expertise in performance-engineering methodologies, workload modelling, capacity planning, and scalability testing
  • Hands-on experience designing and evolving performance-testing frameworks using k6, Gatling, JMeter, Locust, NeoLoad, or equivalent
  • Experience implementing resilience and chaos-engineering practices using Gremlin, Chaos Toolkit, Azure Chaos Studio, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of API architectures, microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and on-premise or cloud-native applications
  • Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript, C#, or Java
  • Proven experience designing, building, and evolving performance-testing frameworks, not just using them
  • Experience with AI-powered testing or test generation, including LLMs, agentic automation, and spec-driven automation
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms including GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitLab CI
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, AWS or Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of database-performance concepts across relational and NoSQL technologies
  • Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, Azure Monitor, or equivalent
  • Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement and be on-site for events and business demands when needed

Benefits

  • Annual incentive program eligibility
  • Flexible benefit packages customizable annually
  • 3–4 weeks of vacation per year, with additional days earned over time
