About the role

  • Project Manager managing flagship mangrove partnerships, overseeing restoration operations and drone program at veritree, a climate tech startup. Collaborating on field data and ensuring project success across East Africa.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end relationship with our flagship East Africa mangrove partner — running monthly business reviews, triaging field issues, ensuring monitoring and data collection is on track, and following through consistently so the partner experiences veritree as organized, transparent, and dependable.
  • Establish veritree's drone program on a sound technical footing and provide an evidence-based assessment of ecosystem health.
  • Finish, document, and stabilize the core mangrove SOP set (planting session, survivability, seed germination, monitoring) and make them portable enough to roll out across other mangrove projects.
  • Run our largest mangrove planting partner relationship end-to-end as the primary point of contact, across current operations in Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique and planned expansion into new countries.
  • Travel to East Africa up to three times a year to meet with our planting partner, foster healthy business relationships, evaluate new opportunities, and audit planting sites. Each trip is typically one to two weeks.
  • Support an additional one to two partnerships, applying the same standards and processes across them.
  • Own and run all recurring partner meetings, including monthly business reviews: setting agendas, driving decisions, and owning follow-through.
  • Keep the partner's planting, verification, and survival data accurate and current: owning data hygiene and quality checks on data flowing into our system.
  • Track trees from planting through verification, and make sure monitoring tasks (survival checks at defined intervals) are created, scheduled, and completed.
  • Manage the outstanding monitoring backlog with a prioritized, batched plan, and provide regular status updates on progress against targets.
  • Create, refine, and audit the SOPs that define what we expect of mangrove projects: from planting sessions and evidence requirements to survivability and monitoring.
  • Write SOPs at a level general enough to adapt across geographies, species, and partner capacity, so they can be standardized across all mangrove projects.
  • Own the drone program at veritree: writing SOPs, owning budgets, coordinating flights, overseeing image capture, and processing imagery into usable outputs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in forestry, remote sensing, geospatial science, environmental science, or a related discipline (advanced degree a plus)
  • Experience in forest or ecosystem restoration monitoring, ideally including mangroves and/or work in East Africa.
  • Hands-on experience with remote sensing and drone (UAV) imagery: flight planning, image processing, and analysis.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including managing external partners and delivering on timelines.
  • Strong data literacy: comfortable interrogating field and imagery data.
  • Ability to travel internationally (10-15% of time).
  • Experience building or standardizing monitoring SOPs across multiple projects or geographies.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with a performance-driven framework that ensures fair and consistent compensation reviews, tied to individual impact and business growth
  • Extended health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Additional Health Spending Account (HSA) / Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) to support your well-being and lifestyle interests
  • A variety of time-off programs, including vacation, personal days, and a 4-week remote work program each year
  • Employee discount with tentree, our sister company
  • A flexible, hybrid work environment designed for collaboration and focus-driven impact
