About the role

  • Research Engineer developing low-latency sensor signal processing for Waabi’s autonomous-driving technology. Building reliable algorithms for camera, LiDAR, radar, and other sensor data.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research and development of Waabi’s signal processing stack for autonomous driving
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to build practical, scalable solutions for massive sensor data with low latency and high reliability
  • Work on systems that transform raw camera, LiDAR, radar, and other sensor data into useful autonomous-driving signals
  • Design and implement signal processing techniques for sensor data acquisition, fusion, and filtering
  • Optimize algorithms for CPU, GPU, DSP, and specialized accelerator architectures
  • Collaborate with autonomy and hardware teams to ensure system robustness
  • Contribute to high-impact research papers submitted to top conferences and journals

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of classical signal processing fundamentals, including filtering and estimation
  • Understanding of learning-based signal processing, including image denoising, super-resolution, and 2D/3D segmentation
  • Ability to apply mathematical insights, including Toeplitz matrices, spectral bandwidth, and M-estimators, to design robust numerical algorithms
  • Experience working with high-throughput data inputs in latency-sensitive algorithms under limited compute and memory budgets
  • Comfortable rapidly building proofs of concept in Python, Julia, or MATLAB
  • Comfortable reading and developing production-quality software
  • Bonus: Industry experience in 1D audio, 2D image, 3D point cloud, or 4D radar signal processing
  • Bonus: Experience with BLAS, CHOLMOD, Gauss-Newton, L-BFGS, and linear programming
  • Bonus: Experience with causal and recursive filters, recurrent neural networks, and transformers
  • Bonus: Experience with buffer management, asynchronous communication, and hardware accelerators
  • Bonus: Solid knowledge of performance profiling and optimization
