About the role

  • Area Manager leading multiple recycling operating units for WM, North America's environmental solutions provider. Driving safety, financial performance, compliance, and team development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the productivity, financial, and overall performance of multiple recycling operating units
  • Develop and implement area recycling operating plans
  • Review and evaluate area recycling operations performance and establish performance measures
  • Counsel managers on executing programs, processes, and initiatives; direct work-plan or contingency-plan modifications when necessary
  • Develop operating-unit budgets and forecast financial and human-resource needs
  • Support managers in budget optimization and budget compliance
  • Oversee human-resource needs, including selecting, coaching, training, and evaluating employees; provide input on termination, compensation, and promotion decisions
  • Ensure recycling operations have resources to operate safely, efficiently, and effectively
  • Facilitate P&L reviews and execute action plans to improve utilization, maintenance, labor costs, and material costs
  • Conduct COGS reviews to maintain or improve gross margin spread
  • Implement programs to improve safety, productivity, and profitability; ensure OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory compliance
  • Conduct site safety reviews with plant managers and supervisors
  • Visit sites periodically to monitor performance and conditions and engage site teams
  • Partner with commodity sales teams to meet mill standards and maximize material pricing
  • Partner with SMB, PSS, and third-party sales on RFPs, bids, and growth opportunities
  • Coordinate capital planning and partner with engineering as needed
  • Participate in industry associations and monitor regulatory and political changes affecting the area recycling business

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Industrial Engineering or similar area of study, or High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree
  • Valid Driver's license
  • 10+ years previous work experience (preferred)
  • Bilingual (French and English) (preferred)
