About the role
- Lead Software Engineer – Mainframe (z/OS, HLASM, C/C++) for a 6-month remote contract in Canada.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain C/C++ applications on IBM z/OS; develop and maintain HLASM modules and JCL jobs; support cryptographic and security-related software; work directly with customers to troubleshoot technical issues; lead code reviews, mentor team members, and contribute to architecture decisions; support build, packaging, and deployment using modern development tools.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on experience developing on IBM z/OS; strong programming experience with HLASM and JCL; solid C/C++ development experience; experience with IBM xLC/C++ Compiler, SMP/E, and COBOL integration; knowledge of RACF, ACF2, SAF, and z/OS security; experience working in banking, insurance, or other enterprise mainframe environments; recent hands-on mainframe development experience within the last 5–10 years.
