About the role

  • Senior Payroll Advisor for a financial services client in Toronto, handling full-cycle payroll, benefits administration, and employee advisory support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and timely delivery of semi-monthly, primarily salaried payroll, including legislated deductions, payroll-related payments, payroll accounting, reconciliations, and analytical reporting. Provide guidance and advisory support to employees and managers on payroll, benefits, and leave management matters. Execute full cycle, semi-monthly payroll processing for a portfolio of approximately 750 multi-provincial Canadian employees. Prepare and issue Records of Employment, and T2200 forms. Monitor and manage shared payroll mailbox. Act as subject matter expert to resolve complex payroll inquiries and discrepancies. Perform full cycle benefits administration, including RRSP-DPSP/TFSA programs and enrollment. Manage benefits billing, reconciliation, and variance analysis. Perform internal payroll and timesheet audits. Prepare and deliver accurate monthly payroll reports. Conduct regular payroll system audits. Support year end payroll activities. Prepare payroll journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, government remittances, and quarterly and annual filings. Identify, recommend, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Education: Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Payroll, Accounting, or Human Resources. Professional Credentials: Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation completed or in view. Preferred Work Experience: At least 5 years of hands-on, full cycle experience processing an in-house payroll for a mid-sized organization. Technical and Language Skills Requirements: Demonstrated proficiency with UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) payroll and workforce management systems. Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables). Advanced Level English written and reading comprehension skills. Advanced Level English conversational skills and verbal presentation skills. Task-Based Qualifications: Demonstrated hands-on, full cycle, in-house payroll accounting and processing experience. Familiarity with payroll distinctions from different Canadian provinces, including Quebec. Demonstrated experience and understanding of RRSP-DPSP/TFSA and Health/Dental benefit program administration. Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines. Self-motivated, with ability to take initiative. High level of professional confidence. Proven ability to respond to sensitive and confidential matters with tact and discretion. Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively. Additional Requirements: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Ability to work both remotely and onsite. Ability to promptly provide minimum of 2 recent, qualified employment references.
