About the role

  • Enforcement intelligence analyst identifying securities misconduct, investor harm, and systemic risks. Producing strategic assessments for Alberta’s securities-market regulator.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess emerging, cross-cutting, and systemic risks to investors and Alberta’s capital market
  • Integrate information from Enforcement and external sources to produce strategic intelligence assessments and recommendations
  • Lead ongoing, proactive cross-matter analysis to identify emerging securities misconduct, investor harm, systemic risks, and enforcement opportunities
  • Apply trend, pattern, link, network, spatial, and temporal analysis to identify connections among individuals, entities, and activities
  • Produce strategic intelligence assessments, risk and threat assessments, analytical reports, visual products, and recommendations
  • Brief management on significant findings, confidence levels, analytical limitations, intelligence gaps, potential implications, and response options
  • Develop and apply analytical methods, risk indicators, and quality standards
  • Monitor developments in securities misconduct, investment fraud, digital assets, technology-enabled misconduct, and other emerging or interjurisdictional risks
  • Work with Intelligence Analysts, Data Analysts, and Investigators to validate and integrate data, analytical outputs, investigative intelligence, and external intelligence
  • Identify and address material intelligence gaps
  • Liaise with regulators, law enforcement, and intelligence partners to exchange information and identify risks warranting coordinated attention
  • Report to the Associate Director, Enforcement

Requirements

  • A university degree in intelligence analysis, criminology, criminal justice, social sciences, data analytics, statistics, or a related discipline
  • At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in strategic intelligence, crime, risk, investigative, or comparable analysis
  • Ability to integrate complex qualitative and quantitative information from multiple sources and identify trends, patterns, risks, threats, emerging issues, and systemic concerns
  • Strong knowledge of intelligence analysis methods, including trend, pattern, link, network, spatial, and temporal analysis
  • Ability to apply and interpret relevant statistical techniques
  • Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, open-source research methods, and analytical and visualization tools
  • Sound judgment in assessing source reliability, distinguishing facts from assumptions, communicating uncertainty, and handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate across disciplines, manage competing priorities, and learn new tools and subject matter
  • Police Information Check with results satisfactory to the ASC prior to commencement of employment
