About the role
- Senior Software Engineer building distributed clearing and settlement systems for Alpaca, a global brokerage infrastructure provider. Developing integrations and infrastructure for equities, options, and securities finance products.
Responsibilities
- Work on post-trade systems for Alpaca’s clearing operations
- Build integrations supporting self-clearing in US equities and options
- Develop infrastructure enabling new financial products and revenue opportunities
- Work on securities finance functions, including fully paid securities lending
- Own projects from ideation through deployment
- Design and build new systems and refine existing systems
- Collaborate with other teams and influence technical and operational decisions
- Participate in the on-call rotation to maintain system reliability
Requirements
- Deep interest in how traditional financial markets work
- Ability to lead projects independently from definition through completion
- Responsibility for personal and team outcomes
- Experience working at startups
- Foundational knowledge of computers, the internet, databases, and distributed systems
- Productivity with Go, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes
- 5+ years of hands-on experience building reliable and distributed systems
- Ability to design good RESTful APIs and identify bad ones
- Nice to have: experience in securities clearing and settlement or securities finance
- Nice to have: experience with gRPC, Protobuf, Temporal, Grafana, Kafka/Redpanda, Helm, and Docker
