About the role

Senior network systems engineer developing C/C++ and Python software that controls Arista’s switches, routers, and hardware components. Leading hardware integration, automated testing, troubleshooting, and mentoring across data-center networking products.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to design and build network systems features
Architect, design, and manage development of software features
Develop and maintain features using C, C++ and Python
Review and contribute to functional and design specifications
Build automated tests and test infrastructure
Work with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring new hardware to market
Design software control interfaces for hardware components
Provide technical leadership across features, projects and tools
Analyze, mitigate, and fix problems in customer networks with Customer Support Engineers and customers
Analyze system test problems and provide fixes
Mentor new and junior engineers
Own projects from definition through deployment and customer interactions
Develop software controlling sensors, controllers, storage devices, FPGAs, NICs and PCIe switches
Optimize system performance using hardware and FPGAs

BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience, or MS plus 6 years, or Ph.D. plus 3 years, or equivalent work experience
Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python
Knowledge of UNIX or Linux
Hands-on experience designing and developing hardware device drivers and/or system management utilities
Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus
Experience with low-level hardware components is a plus
Applied understanding of software engineering principles
Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills
Ability to design solutions and implement features independently
Ability to work in small teams
