About the role

  • Senior network systems engineer developing C/C++ and Python software that controls Arista’s switches, routers, and hardware components. Leading hardware integration, automated testing, troubleshooting, and mentoring across data-center networking products.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers, product management, and hardware engineers to design and build network systems features
  • Architect, design, and manage development of software features
  • Develop and maintain features using C, C++ and Python
  • Review and contribute to functional and design specifications
  • Build automated tests and test infrastructure
  • Work with hardware and manufacturing teams to bring new hardware to market
  • Design software control interfaces for hardware components
  • Provide technical leadership across features, projects and tools
  • Analyze, mitigate, and fix problems in customer networks with Customer Support Engineers and customers
  • Analyze system test problems and provide fixes
  • Mentor new and junior engineers
  • Own projects from definition through deployment and customer interactions
  • Develop software controlling sensors, controllers, storage devices, FPGAs, NICs and PCIe switches
  • Optimize system performance using hardware and FPGAs

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience, or MS plus 6 years, or Ph.D. plus 3 years, or equivalent work experience
  • Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python
  • Knowledge of UNIX or Linux
  • Hands-on experience designing and developing hardware device drivers and/or system management utilities
  • Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems is a plus
  • Experience with low-level hardware components is a plus
  • Applied understanding of software engineering principles
  • Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to design solutions and implement features independently
  • Ability to work in small teams
