About the role

  • Senior Software Developer creating custom PC, PLC, and IoT software for ATS Industrial Automation’s complex test systems. Integrating SCADA, instrumentation, and machine controls for EV, life sciences, aerospace, and automotive customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement custom software based on customer and project requirements
  • Program PC and/or PLC systems and integrate third-party instrumentation and data acquisition devices
  • Integrate software with custom-built machines and prove mechanical, electrical, and software components to produce fully functional systems
  • Develop C# and .NET code for Test Executive and SAMS software products
  • Develop C/C++ software for Arduino and Raspberry Pi microcontroller targets and remote IoT devices
  • Design and implement SCADA systems using ATS Test software packages, LabVIEW, or Python
  • Collect data from PLCs, instrumentation, barcode scanners, vision systems, and other third-party equipment
  • Debug and commission test system programs on the shop floor and customer sites
  • Collaborate with customers, project managers, software developers, designers, toolmakers, and technicians to solve problems
  • Document source-code procedures and data structures using clear, structured, object-oriented methods
  • Inform customer project personnel about documentation and technical problem resolution
  • Train customers on machine operation, programming principles, program functionality, and program structure
  • Maintain compliance with ATS ethical, health, safety, and environmental requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software, Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • 5 years of professional software engineering experience in production systems
  • Experience across the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Experience with project and software configuration management processes and tools, such as GitHub and Jira
  • Experience deciphering TCP/IP, CAN, and LIN packet traces
  • Experience with SCADA and MES systems
  • Background in object-oriented programming languages and design methodologies
  • Understanding of C# and .NET code
  • Preferred experience developing real-time data acquisition and control applications in LabVIEW, Python, or C++
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting instrumentation using vendor software and interfaces, including vision engineering applications
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • High interpersonal skills to work effectively in a geographically dispersed team
  • Ability to manage time and meet deliverable timing
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%
  • Eligibility or registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Ontario
  • Compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures and legislative requirements
  • Attendance at required health, safety, and environmental training
  • Use of required protective equipment and reporting of unsafe conditions, incidents, and equipment defects
