About the role

Senior Backend / Platform Engineer designing core APIs and orchestration layer for Autodesk’s AI-assisted commerce platform. Collaborating across teams for AI-driven commerce solutions with enterprise-grade reliability.

Responsibilities

Design and build the core APIs and orchestration layer (MCP) that connect AI systems to Autodesk’s existing commerce infrastructure.
Build AI-Ready Commerce APIs
Ensure APIs are deterministic, explainable, and versioned for AI consumption
Build orchestration workflows that allow AI agents to perform multi-step commerce actions safely.
Implement guardrails for Pricing and contract rules, Enterprise and channel policies, Approval flows and rollback handling.
Provide observability, audit logs, and traceability for AI-driven actions.
Partner with AI/ML engineers to integrate LLM-based agents via tools, APIs, and function calling.

6+ years of experience building backend or platform services
Strong proficiency in Java, Node Js, or similar backend languages (or equivalent)
Experience with distributed systems, APIs, and service orchestration
Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures (AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD)
Hands-on experience integrating backend systems with: LLMs, AI agents, or ML-driven services
Understanding of AI system characteristics: Non-determinism, Latency tradeoffs, Safety and guardrails
Experience with: Authorization, security, and data protection
Auditability and compliance requirements
High-availability and fault-tolerant systems
Experience with commerce systems (pricing, subscriptions, billing, payments)
Familiarity with event-driven architectures and async workflows
Experience building shared platforms used by multiple teams
