Responsibilities
Combine multiple layers of animation, visual effects, lighting passes, and background elements to create a cohesive image.
Balance color, light, and depth to ensure visual consistency across shots and sequences.
Troubleshoot technical issues such as edge inconsistencies, motion blur, and artifact cleanup.
Collaborate with departments such as Lighting, FX, and Rendering to identify and resolve shot-specific challenges.
Use compositing software to add depth, atmosphere, and enhancements such as lens effects, color grading, and motion blur.
Make creative adjustments to ensure the director’s vision is realized in every shot.
Work closely with the Compositing Supervisor and other team members to align with artistic direction and technical standards.
Provide feedback to upstream departments (e.g., Modeling, Lighting, FX) to improve workflow efficiency.
Organize and manage all compositing assets, including file-naming conventions and proper archiving.
Maintain high standards for file organization and version control.
Requirements
Over 5 years of experience as a Compositing Artist in the animation industry, ideally on fully animated or hybrid feature films.
Proficiency with industry-standard 3D software (e.g., Maya, Houdini).
Experience using Katana, including working with scene files/models within a production pipeline.
Strong understanding of color theory, composition, and principles of cinematography.
In-depth knowledge of shading/rendering systems (e.g., RenderMan, Arnold).
Familiarity with compositing software (e.g., Nuke).
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
A passion for storytelling and a strong artistic sensibility.
Ability to mentor and support junior compositing artists and other team members, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Benefits
Pay Range: $1,400 - $1,700 CAD per week
