About the role

  • Lighting Supervisor leading lighting and compositing for Bardel Entertainment’s animation projects. Maintaining visual consistency, solving technical challenges, and guiding artists through production.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the lighting team to deliver the expected and desired visual style for the animated feature film.
  • Ensure lighting quality and consistency across all shots.
  • Collaborate with the CG Supervisor to assess the technical feasibility of designs and recommend production-appropriate solutions.
  • Consult with the Director and CG Supervisor to assign tasks to artists based on their skills, strengths, and experience.
  • Regularly review artists’ work, provide feedback, and approve shots for submission to the Director.
  • Lead and guide the lighting team while balancing artistic requirements, productivity, and budget constraints.
  • Resolve complex technical and creative lighting challenges.
  • Manage shot continuity and maintain visual consistency across sequences.
  • Work with production management to meet schedules and budgets.
  • Develop and oversee lighting and compositing workflows, resources, methodologies, tools, schedules, and assignments.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation for the team and other supervisors.
  • Keep the team informed of project-related updates and developments.
  • Improve procedures and tools to optimize production.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for interdepartmental communication.
  • Provide each artist with constructive feedback on their performance.
  • Actively participate in the selection of new artists.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of production experience, with strong working knowledge of various software platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role on a fully animated or hybrid feature film.
  • Production experience with Katana and RenderMan, and compositing experience in Nuke, is required.
  • Strong understanding of traditional lighting and compositing techniques and principles.
  • Solid technical background with the ability to quickly learn new programs and systems.
  • High degree of self-direction and a strong work ethic.
  • Knowledge of UNIX and shell scripting.
  • Ability to plan and execute complex 3D lighting scenes, including working with layers and passes, creating complex composites, and optimizing scenes and renders.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • The demo reel should demonstrate a strong artistic understanding of lighting and composition. A shot breakdown listing the work performed for each shot is required.
