About the role
- Senior litigation lawyer representing Beneva insurance affiliates in Quebec courts, administrative bodies, and arbitrations. Managing insurance disputes and advising operational sectors on legal matters.
Responsibilities
- Represent Beneva’s affiliated companies before courts, administrative tribunals, and arbitration panels.
- Manage litigation files across various judicial districts.
- Draft legal notices and court pleadings.
- Prepare for and conduct examinations, case management conferences, settlement conferences, and trials.
- Advise Beneva’s affiliated companies and their representatives on legal matters.
- Make recommendations and provide a variety of legal opinions.
- Participate in committees relevant to the performance of the role.
- Keep up to date and share knowledge regarding legislation, regulations, judicial and quasi-judicial decisions, financial-sector standards, and legal scholarship related to insurance.
- Collaborate with operational departments on investigations, recovery, compulsory demands or access requests, and civil and commercial litigation matters.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law.
- Member in good standing of the Quebec Bar.
- At least 8 years of litigation experience, particularly in property and casualty insurance and life insurance.
- Experience in all aspects of litigation as a trial lawyer.
- Strong ability to communicate and advocate for clients’ interests before the courts.
- Experience interpreting various insurance contracts, including life, group, individual, savings, property and casualty, and surety contracts.
- Advanced proficiency in spoken and written French.
- Intermediate proficiency in spoken and written English.
