About the role

  • Jr. Desktop Engineering Specialist supporting modern desktop environments at Canada Life. Collaborating with IT teams to deliver secure and reliable desktop services to enhance employee experience.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, update, and deploy desktop and virtual machine hardware and software
  • Support and maintain desktop management platforms and infrastructure, including endpoints, servers, and related services
  • Monitor and optimize desktop and virtual machine performance, reliability, and security
  • Troubleshoot and resolve desktop and virtual machine incidents and service requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist with endpoint security controls, patching, and licensing compliance
  • Provide guidance and support to end-users on desktop applications, tools, and best practices
  • Contribute to documentation, standards, and inventory management for desktop services
  • Collaborate with internal IT teams and vendors to ensure stable and reliable desktop operations
  • Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Use agile tools (e.g., Jira or Azure DevOps) to help manage and track work
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on modernizing desktop services

Requirements

  • Foundational knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory, Intune, SCCM, and Azure
  • Familiarity with desktop management tools such as Intune, MECM, and Group Policy
  • Understanding of desktop security tools (antivirus, firewall, encryption, web content filtering, access controls)
  • Knowledge of desktop networking concepts (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS)
  • Ability to script or automate tasks (PowerShell experience is an asset)
  • Exposure to agile methodologies and tools (Scrum, Kanban, Jira, Azure DevOps)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative, solving skills and a collaborative, team focused mindset
  • Ability to manage priorities, learn quickly, and adapt in an evolving technical environment
