About the role

  • Cisco co-op developer building embedded software for networking platforms and intelligent devices. Supporting C/C++ development, testing, debugging, and Linux-based systems engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, enhancement, and testing of foundational software for Cisco networking platforms and intelligent devices
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams
  • Develop dependable software components
  • Explore innovative technical approaches and solve systems challenges
  • Engage in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through testing, debugging, and continuous improvement
  • Apply technical knowledge to complex embedded systems
  • Deliver features that improve the performance and reliability of Cisco products

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program (Associate's or Bachelor's)
  • Qualifying education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Foundational programming and problem-solving skills in C or C++
  • Coursework or personal project experience in data structures, algorithms, and memory management
  • Understanding of operating systems concepts, including processes, threads, and concurrency
  • Understanding of basic networking principles, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, routing, and switching
  • Familiarity with software development workflows in Linux environments
  • Familiarity with Git version control
  • Preferred: hands-on academic or project experience with Embedded Linux, POSIX system calls, device drivers, or microcontroller programming
  • Preferred: familiarity with BGP, OSPF, VLANs, Wireshark, or tcpdump
  • Preferred: Python or Bash scripting for test automation, build systems, or CI/CD pipelines
  • Preferred: exposure to hardware/software co-design, FPGA fundamentals, GDB, or JTAG
  • Preferred: strong analytical troubleshooting skills, technical curiosity, and collaboration in an agile engineering team
