About the role

  • Senior Manager, Tax leading corporate income and commodity tax for Federated Co-operatives Limited. Advising on compliance, planning, audits, optimization, and financial decisions across Western Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Lead FCL’s corporate income tax function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant income tax filings, provisions, IFRS disclosures, future income tax calculations, reconciliations, and supporting documentation across FCL and its subsidiaries
  • Provide strategic tax planning and technical advice on acquisitions, transactions, restructurings, capital projects, CCA optimization, SR&ED, and other tax incentives
  • Oversee tax audits, disputes, compliance, and relationships with CRA and provincial tax authorities
  • Develop defensible tax positions, coordinate responses and information requests, and support appeals and settlements
  • Manage tax cash and financial integration, including instalments, refunds, tax receivables and payables, balance sheet accounts, budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, patronage calculations, and acquisitions
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight to the Commodity Tax function, including approximately 88 fuel tax and sales tax returns across eight provincial jurisdictions
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes, internal controls, data quality, audit readiness, and technology
  • Partner with Finance, business units, CRS Retail members, Government Relations, external advisors, and other stakeholders
  • Report to the Director, Corporate Accounting
  • Provide direct leadership to the Commodity Tax Manager and indirect oversight of the broader Commodity Tax team
  • Provide technical guidance to Finance team members and embed tax considerations into business and financial decisions

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience, including corporate income tax, tax compliance, tax provision, and financial reporting within a complex, multi-entity organization
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business, or a related field
  • Professional tax designation or advanced tax education, such as CPA Canada's In-Depth Tax Program, is considered an asset
  • Ability to lead FCL’s corporate income tax function
  • Knowledge of tax planning, compliance, financial reporting, audits, tax optimization, and business decision-making
  • Ability to oversee commodity tax compliance across eight provincial jurisdictions
  • Ability to lead teams and develop people
  • May be required to complete a criminal record check in accordance with FCL policies
