Senior VFX Artist creating real-time special effects for Digital Extremes, an independent video game studio. Collaborating across art, design, audio, and development on Warframe and Soulframe.
Responsibilities
Build efficient, high-quality special effects using traditional art training and 3D software while managing memory usage and gameplay speed
Stay current with contemporary effects techniques and research new technologies and solutions
Collaborate with art, design, audio, and development departments to deliver visual effects
Work under the Art Director’s creative guidance and deliver according to production schedules
Participate in feedback loops by giving and receiving feedback within art and level design teams
Perform other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
5+ years of professional experience creating high-quality VFX for video games
Deep understanding of real-time special effects, particle systems, postprocessing effects, shaders, and animation principles
Strong artistic portfolio
Strong grasp of game engines, tools, pipelines, and development processes
Working knowledge of a commercial 3D package
University degree in visual arts (specialization in graphic design, commercial art, graphic communications, or fine arts) or college diploma in graphic arts
Excellent cross-discipline communication skills and ability to follow direction and collaborate across art, design, and technical teams
Ability to multitask, prioritize competing demands, pay attention to detail, and meet deadlines under production conditions
Receptiveness to creative direction and active participation in constructive feedback
Self-directed, with a strong work ethic, high quality standards, and clear artistic vision
Genuine enthusiasm and passion for video games and visual storytelling
Preferred experience with Maya, JangaFx, Houdini, Photoshop, and scripting languages such as Python or Lua
