About the role

  • Policy and Advocacy Officer advancing evidence-based hunger and poverty solutions for Food Banks Canada. Conducting policy research, supporting advocacy campaigns, and engaging federal policymakers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and impact analysis on policy, legislation, and regulatory issues
  • Monitor government and legislative activity and report how developments affect Food Banks Canada and the food bank network
  • Support development of signature reports, including HungerCount and Poverty Report Card
  • Draft briefing materials, reports, policy recommendations, and consultation submissions
  • Support planning and execution of advocacy campaigns concerning food insecurity and poverty
  • Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials, political staff, and federal public servants
  • Liaise with policymakers and partners on behalf of Food Banks Canada
  • Maintain regular contact with provincial associations and provide advice and assistance on advocacy, policy, and government relations

Requirements

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or equivalent, preferably in political science
  • Minimum 4 years relevant experience and/or education
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities
  • Clear, professional, and warm communication
  • Experience working in federal politics is an asset
  • Experience in grassroots advocacy and campaign development is an asset
  • Solid project management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and relationship-building skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, including strong proofreading skills
  • Deep knowledge of Canada’s political systems and understanding of public policy implementation
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
  • Must be located within 100 km of Ottawa, ON
