About the role

  • Website Developer/Engineer at QGEM, responsible for coding and designing the iGEM website. Collaborating with teams to ensure a user-friendly interface and effective communication of complex scientific content.

Responsibilities

  • Writing, testing, and debugging code for the iGEM website/wiki using HTML, CSS, and/or JavaScript, and various frameworks.
  • Planning the structure, layout, and user interface of web applications.
  • Assist with designing a cohesive visual identity for the wiki, including page layouts, navigation structure, graphics, and styling.
  • Help create a responsive, user-friendly, and accessible interface that effectively communicates complex scientific content.
  • Contribute to implementing interactive elements where appropriate.
  • Organize code, media assets, and documentation for clean submission
  • Collaborate with wet lab, dry lab, and media teams

Requirements

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and/or website development is recommended.
  • Familiarity with UI/UX principles, or graphic design tools (e.g., Figma, Illustrator, Canva) is a strong asset.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to manage scientific content and multiple deadlines.
  • Team-oriented and comfortable working in interdisciplinary environments
  • Problem-solving abilities, especially in debugging code and optimizing website structure.
  • Interest in science communication, knowledge translation, synthetic biology, or biotechnology-related projects.
