About the role

  • Avocat(e) de litige défendant les municipalités et leurs employés pour le fonds d’assurance de la FQM. Représentation devant les tribunaux et élaboration de stratégies de défense.

Responsibilities

  • Handle defense files for the Quebec Municipalities Insurance Fund
  • Provide advice and legal opinions in connection with proceedings brought against municipalities or their employees
  • Represent municipalities or their employees before the courts
  • Analyze claims and proceedings and provide legal opinions
  • Conduct legislative, doctrinal, and case law research
  • Draft court pleadings
  • Develop defense strategies
  • Participate in settlement conferences or dispute resolution processes
  • Ensure the proper management and progress of files entrusted by the Fund
  • Monitor legislation and developments in case law relating to insurance and municipal law
  • Share knowledge with the team

Requirements

  • Hold an undergraduate university degree in Law
  • Be a member in good standing of the Quebec Bar
  • Have a minimum of five years of experience in a position involving similar responsibilities
  • Have practical litigation experience; experience in insurance law or municipal law is an asset
  • Demonstrate excellent proficiency in French, both written and spoken
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to build relationships based on trust
  • Excellent analytical, judgment, and synthesis skills
  • Thoroughness, organization, and commitment to work quality
  • Demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, and a high degree of professional autonomy
  • Ability to manage multiple files simultaneously and work under pressure
  • Any combination of education and professional experience, as well as any other relevant experience, will be considered
