About the role

  • Hardware Designer architecting high-speed electronic systems for Fidus, a Canadian technology design firm. Designing, testing, and validating complex boards across emerging technology markets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop system- and board-level architectural designs collaboratively with software and FPGA programmers
  • Analyze requirements and provide schematic design and component selection for high-speed circuits, SerDes up to 32Gbps, control circuits, power supply sequencing, inter-board connectors, and memory buses
  • Conduct LTSpice design simulations and validate circuits through prototype bench tests
  • Collaborate with Signal Integrity teams on critical-net analysis
  • Participate in Signal Integrity, PCB Layout, FPGA coding, and Software design reviews
  • Create parts libraries and perform schematic capture with embedded layout constraints using OrCAD Capture CIS
  • Develop comprehensive test plans and procedures
  • Perform lab bring-up and in-depth verification of hardware prototypes
  • Resolve hardware and software integration issues with the team
  • Lead regulatory certification testing
  • Generate technical and user documentation
  • Provide pre-project technical support to business and sales teams on scope, schedule, estimates, and deliverables
  • Provide post-project technical support to customers
  • Mentor junior and intermediate electronic designers
  • Collaborate with customers and cross-functional FPGA, software, SI/PI, PCB layout, and mechanical/thermal teams throughout product development

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of direct electronics design experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • Ability to lead a design technically and mentor others
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of high-speed circuit and multi-layer PCB design
  • In-depth understanding of the hardware product development cycle, including requirements, architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, signal integrity, verification, and manufacturing
  • Background in FPGA designs, including 32Gbps differential pairs, power/thermal design
  • Experience with DDR4, PCIe Gen4, MIPI, Gigabit Ethernet, USB-C, HDMI, SerDes, and JESD204B
  • Experience with Cadence CIS, OrCAD, or Cadence Allegro
  • Experience using optical test sets, signal analyzers, and GHz+ oscilloscopes
  • Hands-on debugging experience with scopes, VNAs, signal generators, and electronic loads
  • Familiarity with ESD, EMI, and RF design considerations
  • Ability to use Verilog, RTL, or HLS is an asset
  • Embraces AI as part of a modern engineering toolkit
  • Travel may be required domestically and internationally
