About the role
- Architectural facilities consultant assessing Canadian buildings for Gordian, a facility and construction cost data company. Delivering condition assessments, lifecycle analyses, and capital renewal recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, maintenance records, previous reports, and client-provided documentation
- Perform visual inspections of roofing systems, exterior walls and cladding, windows and curtain walls, doors and hardware, foundations and waterproofing systems, interior finishes, accessibility features, and building envelope assemblies
- Assess the condition, performance, and remaining useful life of architectural systems and components
- Conduct facility condition assessments and building envelope evaluations in accordance with Gordian methodologies and industry standards
- Document deficiencies, deterioration, code concerns, and operational issues using field notes, photographs, and digital assessment tools
- Develop repair, replacement, and renewal recommendations
- Perform service life evaluations and deferred maintenance analyses
- Support long-term capital planning through lifecycle forecasting and capital renewal recommendations
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and repair and replacement cost estimates using RSMeans, Gordian cost data, and industry-standard resources
- Prioritize repair and replacement projects based on condition, risk, operational impact, and client objectives
- Collaborate with facility managers, operations staff, and client stakeholders
- Explain assessment findings and recommendations to clients
- Assist with technical reviews, report preparation, quality assurance, and data validation
- Support continuous improvement of assessment methodologies, standards, and best practices
- Collect field data using tablets and mobile assessment software
- Record findings in facility intelligence, asset management, and capital planning platforms
- Prepare technical reports, cost analyses, and supporting documentation
- Perform quality assurance reviews for data accuracy, consistency, and completeness
Requirements
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Building Science, Facility Management, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in facility condition assessments, property condition assessments, architectural design and consulting, building envelope consulting, asset management, facility operations, property management, building construction or renovation projects, or construction administration
- Understanding of Canadian building construction systems and methodologies
- Understanding of building envelope assemblies and performance
- Understanding of accessibility requirements
- Understanding of life safety requirements
- Understanding of deferred maintenance and lifecycle planning principles
- Understanding of asset management concepts
- Familiarity with the National Building Code of Canada, Provincial Building Codes, accessibility legislation and standards, and relevant CSA, ASTM, and BOMA standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Outlook
- Experience using tablets, mobile applications, and digital field data collection tools
- Ability to work with drawings, digital construction documents, PDFs, and asset databases
- Ability to walk extensive distances through large facilities, campuses, and industrial sites
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access rooftops safely
- Ability to work in occupied facilities, mechanical rooms, crawlspaces, and outdoor environments
- Willingness to travel approximately 40–50% throughout Canada, with occasional international travel as required
- Strong technical writing and report preparation skills
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and professionally
