About the role

  • Senior software engineer building General Motors’ vehicle data platform across ECUs and cloud. Developing control, data, logging, and SDK software for connected vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain on-vehicle control-plane components that retrieve cloud configuration and apply it across vehicle ECUs
  • Design, implement, and maintain on-vehicle data-plane components that collect, process, and forward vehicle data to cloud storage, including streaming and file-based transfer
  • Build and maintain logging software across the vehicle software stack
  • Develop SDK libraries, apps, and services, including API documentation and examples
  • Deliver software on Android, Linux, and QNX across General Motors compute modules
  • Optimize data egress and configuration delivery over intermittent connectivity while reducing CPU and memory footprint
  • Integrate with Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore for configuration delivery, device state reporting, and data egress
  • Instrument software for fleet monitoring, production diagnosis, and source-level issue resolution
  • Write unit and integration tests, review code, and meet software release criteria
  • Support application teams with SDK integration and respond to field issues
  • Collaborate with DevOps, Cloud, cybersecurity, and privacy teams on software and configuration rollouts
  • Contribute to open-source projects through issue reports, documentation, and patches
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote team best practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 4+ years of hands-on development experience in C or C++, or in Java/Kotlin for Android
  • Experience developing software for Linux, Android, and/or QNX platforms
  • Experience delivering software on production ECUs or other devices with limited CPU, memory, storage, and bandwidth
  • Understanding of distributed systems, configuration management, and data pipelines
  • Experience with control plane or device management software, data collection and transfer pipelines, logging or telemetry software, or SDKs and libraries used by other teams
  • Experience with API design, versioning, and adoption support for SDKs or libraries
  • Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity controls and data protection processes
  • Understanding of network communication and security protocols, including mTLS and certificate-based device identity
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests and working with CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience troubleshooting issues in production environments
  • Communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Has delivered software in a production environment and supported it once in the field

  • Preferred: familiarity with UDS, CAN, SOME/IP, XCP, Autosar, OpenTelemetry, protobuf, gRPC, Fluent Bit, AWS/GCP/Azure device management services, Firestore, driver or HMI-initiated capture flows, and automotive domain concepts
