About the role
- Software Engineer II building AI-enhanced Java cloud services for Guidewire’s property and casualty insurance platform. Developing secure, scalable microservices with modern AI-assisted tools.
Responsibilities
- Build elegant software solutions for the property and casualty insurance industry
- Build, refactor, and extend services using AI-native coding approaches and AI-assisted tools
- Maintain high engineering standards, tests, and observability
- Embed GenAI across products
- Improve operational excellence and customer experience
- Deliver secure, reliable, and scalable cloud services
- Design and write code hands-on
- Collaborate within a lean, empowered, small, cross-functional team
- Work with data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement
- Contribute to Guidewire’s cloud platform for property and casualty insurers
Requirements
- Minimum 2+ years of Software Development experience, preferably in SaaS or cloud solutions
- Proficiency in Core Java and good working knowledge of the Spring framework
- Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python
- Experience building microservices on cloud service platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure; AWS preferred
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience designing REST or gRPC based APIs
- Ability to use AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot
- Strong judgment around code quality, testing, and security
- Good understanding of Object-Oriented Design principles
- Understanding of relational database persistence such as MySQL or Oracle
- Great understanding of CI/CD and DevOps principles
- Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to the current role and use data-driven insights
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related field
- Experience with LLMs, LangChain, RAG, ReAct, prompt engineering, or integrating AI services into production systems is a plus
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or CouchDB is a plus
- Experience with TeamCity, Git-based workflows, or Kubernetes is a plus
- Ability to work collaboratively in an empowered, small, cross-functional team
- Experience in an agile and fast-paced development environment
- Thorough testing and passion for code quality
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment
