About the role

  • Manage Engineering team for Intact Insurance claims in Ontario. Oversee technical aspects of claims and mentor team members for professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, develop, and mobilize the engineering team in Ontario to achieve business objectives.
  • Provide coaching, regular follow-ups and feedback to team members.
  • Mentor your team's technical and professional skills and facilitate continuous learning by developing solid professional development plans for your employees.
  • Implement procedures and policies and ensure that they are followed while ensuring that they meet those of the professional orders of the team members.
  • Manage the team's budget and material resources by maintaining exceptional customer service, while meeting the company's financial and productivity goals.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement management and organizational initiatives to support business strategies, including organizational structure changes and process/technology improvements.
  • Maintain strong business relationships with suppliers/vendors and other key partners.
  • Collaborate with the Claims, Subrogation and Legal teams.
  • Develop policies, strategies, budgets and short-and long-term plans to facilitate work-in-progress, process improvement, client relations and other needs.
  • Carry out mandates for our in-house experts and collaborate with our building appraisers and claims adjusters.
  • If necessary, carry out mandates for our external experts retained by Intact.
  • Assist the claims team in order to quickly and efficiently guide the continuation of the settlement in the case of claims related to a building.
  • If necessary, meet with insureds to fully understand the circumstances of their claim, investigate, and document the cause, provide an opinion, and intervene to contribute to the resolution of the conflict during the claim by providing technical insight.
  • Liaise with other internal and external engineers and scientists on technical matters.
  • Need to interact on a regular basis with colleagues and clients across the country.

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering
  • Member of the Professional Engineers Ontario or have the professional status for licensing.
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of consulting for the cause and origin of insurance claims.
  • Team management experience including remote management (an asset).
  • Advanced knowledge of codes and standards related to buildings and structures.
  • Demonstrates inspiring leadership and is adept at sharing the company's vision.
  • Ability to generate commitment and mobilization from your team.
  • Ability to lead projects and manage change.
  • Ease at building relationships based on trust and collaboration both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrates good analytical and decision-making skills, as well as a strong tolerance for stress.
  • Excellent ability to work in a team and create lasting interpersonal relationships.
