About the role

  • Assistant Controller overseeing accounting, close, audits, and reporting for Kardium’s FDA-approved atrial fibrillation medical device. Leading process improvements and accounting staff in Burnaby.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of general ledger accounting activities
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding items
  • Provide supporting oversight of accounts payable, sales and accounts receivable, fixed assets, and inventory processes
  • Maintain accounting records and data integrity within ERP systems
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Analyze financial results and contribute to variance analyses
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies
  • Support external audit activities
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation
  • Respond to auditor inquiries and assist with issue resolution
  • Support tax filings and compliance requirements
  • Partner with FP&A to provide financial analysis and insights
  • Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting
  • Support financial planning and management reporting
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff
  • Review team output for accuracy and completeness
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Support ERP enhancements, reporting automation, and finance transformation initiatives
  • Serve as a key business partner across departments

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional designation preferred
  • 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing or regulated industry
  • Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotech environments strongly preferred
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership in an operational setting preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Continuous improvement mindset and ability to drive change
  • Proactive mindset and enthusiasm for finding innovative solutions to challenges
