About the role
- Controller delivering outsourced accounting leadership and financial reporting for Business Sherpa Group’s Canadian SME clients. Managing client engagements, close processes, compliance, and accounting teams remotely.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to a portfolio of clients
- Build strong client relationships, understand business goals, and deliver responsive, value-added financial leadership
- Review financial statements, reporting packages, and key analyses for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, cash flow management, and financial reporting across multiple client engagements
- Participate in budgeting and forecasting exercises
- Lead client engagements and coordinate accountants and accounting specialists
- Mentor and support less experienced team members through coaching, knowledge sharing, technical guidance, and work review
- Resolve complex accounting, reporting, and operational challenges for clients
- Improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance financial operations
- Collaborate across the firm to share best practices and support client success
- Manage multiple client relationships and priorities while maintaining high service standards
Requirements
- CPA or CPA candidate
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a range of small and mid-sized organizations
- Experience in a controller-level role with an accounting or bookkeeping firm, managing a portfolio of clients
- Experience as an accounting supervisor or team lead
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations (GAAP, IFRS, etc.)
- Knowledge of cloud-based accounting packages
- Driven to do things right and take a constructive approach to solving problems
- Enthusiasm for the work and desire to help clients succeed
- Authorization to work on a full-time basis for any employer in Canada
