About the role
- Operator responsible for heavy equipment on construction sites for LTL Contracting Ltd. Working on roadway infrastructure and utilities in Thunder Bay, Ontario, with travel rotation.
Responsibilities
- Operate excavators and other heavy equipment to complete tasks such as digging around utilities and live lines, grading, trenching, and backfilling
- Collaborate with site supervisors, laborers, and other operators to ensure work meets project specifications and timelines
- Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and optimal operation
- Follow all site-specific and company-wide safety protocols and procedures
- Assist with loading and unloading materials as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and promptly report any issues to supervisors
- Adapt to various site conditions, including weather and terrain, while maintaining productivity
Requirements
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment
- Strong understanding of construction site operations
- Proficient in operating heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, graders, backhoes, and bulldozers
- Strong mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor equipment issues
- Ability to read construction drawings, blueprints, and interpret project plans
- Skilled in using GPS technology and machine control systems for precision grading and layout
- A valid operator’s license or equipment certification may be required depending on local regulations
- Previous experience in civil or heavy construction is preferred
