About the role

  • Operator responsible for heavy equipment on construction sites for LTL Contracting Ltd. Working on roadway infrastructure and utilities in Thunder Bay, Ontario, with travel rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and other heavy equipment to complete tasks such as digging around utilities and live lines, grading, trenching, and backfilling
  • Collaborate with site supervisors, laborers, and other operators to ensure work meets project specifications and timelines
  • Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and optimal operation
  • Follow all site-specific and company-wide safety protocols and procedures
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials as needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and promptly report any issues to supervisors
  • Adapt to various site conditions, including weather and terrain, while maintaining productivity

Requirements

  • Proven experience operating heavy equipment
  • Strong understanding of construction site operations
  • Proficient in operating heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, graders, backhoes, and bulldozers
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor equipment issues
  • Ability to read construction drawings, blueprints, and interpret project plans
  • Skilled in using GPS technology and machine control systems for precision grading and layout
  • A valid operator’s license or equipment certification may be required depending on local regulations
  • Previous experience in civil or heavy construction is preferred
