About the role

  • Full-stack Engineer building scalable annuities applications for John Hancock’s life insurance business. Developing .NET, ReactJS, SQL, and cloud-native solutions in an agile team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of annuities full-stack applications
  • Develop applications using .NET (VB/C#), ASP.NET, JavaScript/jQuery, ReactJS, SQL, Docker, Kubernetes, App Logic, and API Management
  • Own work and delivery-team progress while aligning with project goals and timelines
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in an agile environment
  • Use GitHub Copilot and other AI tools to improve efficiency
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, pricing, and business teams
  • Analyze and resolve complex technical issues and system defects
  • Write and execute unit and integration tests
  • Ensure development code quality meets delivery standards
  • Produce comprehensive documentation for developed system components
  • Bring actuarial and mathematical models to life in user-friendly, performant applications
  • Contribute to products impacting annuities customers and insurance solutions

Requirements

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
  • At least 4+ years of experience as a Full-stack Software Engineer with strong front-end and back-end technical expertise
  • Experience with .NET (VB/C#) development of Desktop, Web, and API applications
  • Experience with Azure, AKS on Azure, or other cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP
  • Experience with DevOps or DevSecOps principles and tools
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • Experience with project management and tracking software such as JIRA
  • Strong understanding of front-end and back-end development principles, standards, and design techniques
  • Ability to assess requirements and provide technical solutioning options and level-of-effort estimates aligned to delivery schedules
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, conceptual, critical-thinking, written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation, planning, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to solve and debug complex problems collaboratively
  • Self-starter mindset with desire to lead, innovate, continuously learn, and advocate for positive change
  • Mathematical or actuarial science foundation is a plus
  • Strong annuities, insurance, or financial business acumen is a plus
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets, statistical analysis programs, and programming languages is a plus
