About the role

  • Automation Engineer Co-op improving Manulife’s financial-services processes through workflow automation. Building low-code solutions, dashboards, and integrations for digital transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business and operational processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and automation opportunities
  • Document current-state workflows and support the design of future-state automated processes
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and understand operational challenges
  • Design, develop, test, and support automation solutions using approved platforms and tools
  • Build workflows, integrations, dashboards, and reporting solutions to improve productivity and business outcomes
  • Monitor solution performance and identify opportunities for optimization and enhancement
  • Create and maintain process documentation, user guides, and technical documentation
  • Support data collection, reporting, and analysis to evaluate automation initiatives
  • Research emerging automation, artificial intelligence, and productivity technologies and share recommendations
  • Participate in continuous improvement, operational excellence, and digital transformation initiatives

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Technology Management, Data Analytics, or a related field
  • Understanding of process improvement, workflow design, business analysis, or operational efficiency concepts
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform, Power Automate, or Power Apps
  • Basic knowledge of Excel, Power BI, or SQL
  • Exposure to Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Preferred: experience from academic projects, internships, hackathons, extracurricular activities, or personal projects involving automation or process improvement
  • Preferred: exposure to Generative AI technologies such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot, or ChatGPT
  • Preferred: familiarity with Visio or similar process mapping tools
  • Preferred: experience creating dashboards, reports, or data visualizations using Power BI or similar tools
  • Preferred: understanding of APIs, system integrations, data connectors, or automation architecture concepts
