About the role

  • Advanced Care Paramedic providing emergency treatment, transportation, and leadership across Northeast Alberta for Medavie Health Services. Operating ambulances, documenting patient care, and coordinating with hospitals and emergency agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals to appropriate medical facilities
  • Provide leadership, decision-making, and ensure ambulance safety throughout each shift
  • Work alongside PCPs and EMRs during emergency medical situations
  • Maintain knowledge and skills in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile to deliver optimum patient care
  • Safely operate MHS-West vehicles and maintain vehicles in a state of readiness
  • Work in hazardous environments to ensure patient safety and stabilization
  • Coordinate with outside agencies on behalf of patients
  • Document patient care, assessments, and skills in timely and legible patient care reports/ePCRs
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and refer media requests to the General Manager
  • Report incidents and complete written incident reports
  • Participate in continuing education, quality assurance, and professional development
  • Participate in approved public awareness and community education programs
  • Maintain professional appearance, uniform, hygiene, and grooming standards

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics if applying to Lloydminster positions
  • Completion of Alberta Health Services MCPs
  • Current CPR certification
  • FARE Certificate required
  • Ability to maintain knowledge and skills in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile
  • Good physical health with no disabilities that impair paramedic duties
  • Ability to lift and move heavy patients
  • Ability to extricate patients from hazardous environments
  • Ability to work safely in hazardous environments and handle exposure to violent behaviour, traffic hazards, communicable diseases, invasive medical devices, and extreme weather conditions
  • Professionalism, communication, sound judgment, and ability to handle conflict situations
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow provincial and federal regulations
