About the role

  • Operations Manager leading Island EMS ambulance operations, paramedic resources, and facilities across western Prince Edward Island. Supporting safety, staffing, emergency response, and Provincial MFR programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead western operations and facility management for Island EMS and support the Provincial MFR Program
  • Oversee operations and staff at the Alberton, O’Leary, and Summerside bases
  • Manage and oversee IEMS facilities and address facility issues with employees, Duty SOPs, management, and fleet staff
  • Manage employee and labour issues confidentially, empathetically, and respectfully
  • Prepare and distribute operational and facility updates and memos
  • Mediate conflicts and support staff and service improvement
  • Ensure staff and public safety compliance with regulations, guidelines, and legislation
  • Provide support and oversight to the Provincial MFR Coordinator
  • Conduct investigations into complaints and inquiries
  • Participate in recruitment decisions, candidate selection, and other HR recruitment functions
  • Collaborate with communications on public information releases and represent Island EMS at community, stakeholder, or municipal meetings
  • Provide clinical support and coaching by attending scenes when required
  • Work on the ambulance during emergencies when required to retain professional paramedic skills
  • Oversee deployment and utilization of paramedic resources, operational policies, and service resources
  • Coordinate on-scene response for major incidents and contingency/disaster management
  • Provide coverage and support for the General Manager as required
  • Travel within the region

Requirements

  • Currently registered in good standing, or eligible for registration, as a Paramedic (PCP, ICP or ACP) in the province of Prince Edward Island
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working as a paramedic, which could include experience in a progressively responsible leadership role
  • Proven experience in EMS leadership, information technology, finance, and human resources is ideal
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a proven track record for inspiring and motivating others
  • Commitment to stellar customer/patient service
  • Positive and creative approach to problem solving
  • Outstanding communication, negotiating, and dispute resolution skills
  • Working knowledge of standard business computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Class 4 driver’s license in good standing in Prince Edward Island, or equivalent
  • Incident Command Systems and basic Emergency Management training are assets
  • Additional disaster management training is an asset, or willingness to complete
  • Post-secondary education in Health, Paramedicine, Business Administration, or a related field is an asset
  • Thorough working knowledge of paramedic scope of practice
  • Knowledge of and ability to assist in developing the System Status Plan
  • Ability to lead and develop staff
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and strategize in a dynamic work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
  • Emotional stability, good dexterity, good general health, and physical coordination
  • Availability during regular business hours, with some irregular hours expected
