About the role

  • Protection & Control Specialist supporting field commissioning and testing on power system projects. Working hands-on to troubleshoot and collaborate for high-quality results.

Responsibilities

  • Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of protective relays, RTUs, PLCs, DFRs, and communication systems
  • Perform field testing for transmission and distribution systems, transformers, buses, and generation assets
  • Assist with configuration and commissioning of relay systems
  • Support SCADA and RTU integration and upgrades
  • Interpret drawings, protection schemes, and relay settings
  • Troubleshoot and resolve field issues with guidance from senior specialists
  • Contribute to project documentation and commissioning reports
  • Maintain strong communication with clients and internal teams
  • Promote and follow Shermco’s safety-first culture

Requirements

  • 3 - 7 years of progressive experience in protection & controls field services
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience with protection relays (SEL preferred; GE considered an asset)
  • Familiarity with RTU and communication systems (SEL, GE, Novatech, etc.)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across BC
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
