About the role
- Director of Engineering scaling FLiiP’s fitness management SaaS platform. Leading web, mobile, data, and AI engineering while driving reliability, security, and team growth.
Responsibilities
- Shape how engineering operates and scales as the company grows
- Lead, coach, and grow engineers and data scientists across web, mobile, and data disciplines
- Support individual growth through 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development plans
- Drive ownership, accountability, performance, and continuous improvement
- Manage hiring to scale the team
- Define and enforce engineering best practices, quality standards, and deployment processes
- Manage on-call rotations and ensure system reliability
- Own the engineering security posture for SOC 2 and GDPR compliance
- Champion technical debt reduction and proactive platform reliability
- Support the team during incidents as required
- Lead the design and continuous improvement of the AI-driven Software Development Lifecycle
- Embed AI tooling and practices across engineering to increase velocity and quality
- Collaborate with data science on AI/ML product initiatives
- Align engineering execution with product strategy alongside Product and Design
- Partner with Customer Success and Support on technically complex escalations
- Report on engineering performance using clear, data-driven metrics
- Report directly to the COO/CTO
Requirements
- 2+ years of engineering leadership experience, with a track record of scaling engineering in startup SaaS environments
- Experience leading web, mobile, and data engineering teams
- Experience with AI processes and building or improving AI SDLC practices
- Knowledge of SOC 2 and GDPR compliance requirements, along with strong engineering security practices
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills (Product, Design, CS, Support)
- Eligibility to work in Canada
- Experience with AWS infrastructure
- Professional proficiency in French
- Background in or passion for fitness / health industry
- Experience managing both ICs and engineering managers (IC/Manager balance)
