About the role

  • Senior Software Engineer building scalable merchant identity systems for Paramount Commerce, a Canadian fintech simplifying online payments. Owning features end-to-end across design, deployment, reliability, and merchant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deliver complex, high-impact features for the merchant platform from initial requirements through testing, documentation, and deployment
  • Collaborate with Product to resolve ambiguity and define scope and requirements
  • Lead solution design discussions and architect scalable systems
  • Write clear technical documentation and make pragmatic reliability-focused decisions
  • Champion SRE standards for code quality, testing, and supportability
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback
  • Triage and debug complex issues
  • Participate in the team’s on-call rotation
  • Mentor and support the growth of other engineers
  • Communicate asynchronously across GitHub, Slack, and Google Workspace
  • Build systems that improve merchant onboarding, management, retention, and user experience

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Deep experience designing, building, and operating scalable distributed services
  • Experience designing for reliability, performance, and availability
  • Comfortable working in Go
  • Experience with Kubernetes and modern infrastructure
  • Experience in containerized, cloud-based environments
  • Experience with financial systems or fintech, or strong understanding of payment flows
  • Understanding of regulated, high-stakes environments
  • Experience across the full software lifecycle, including design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
  • Business acumen and understanding of customer product usage
  • Ability to balance speed, quality, and complexity in ambiguous situations
  • Ability to quantify impact, use data to guide decisions, and measure outcomes
  • Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and operate effectively in an asynchronous remote culture
