About the role
- Senior Software Engineer building scalable merchant identity systems for Paramount Commerce, a Canadian fintech simplifying online payments. Owning features end-to-end across design, deployment, reliability, and merchant experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deliver complex, high-impact features for the merchant platform from initial requirements through testing, documentation, and deployment
- Collaborate with Product to resolve ambiguity and define scope and requirements
- Lead solution design discussions and architect scalable systems
- Write clear technical documentation and make pragmatic reliability-focused decisions
- Champion SRE standards for code quality, testing, and supportability
- Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback
- Triage and debug complex issues
- Participate in the team’s on-call rotation
- Mentor and support the growth of other engineers
- Communicate asynchronously across GitHub, Slack, and Google Workspace
- Build systems that improve merchant onboarding, management, retention, and user experience
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Deep experience designing, building, and operating scalable distributed services
- Experience designing for reliability, performance, and availability
- Comfortable working in Go
- Experience with Kubernetes and modern infrastructure
- Experience in containerized, cloud-based environments
- Experience with financial systems or fintech, or strong understanding of payment flows
- Understanding of regulated, high-stakes environments
- Experience across the full software lifecycle, including design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
- Business acumen and understanding of customer product usage
- Ability to balance speed, quality, and complexity in ambiguous situations
- Ability to quantify impact, use data to guide decisions, and measure outcomes
- Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and operate effectively in an asynchronous remote culture
