About the role

  • Junior to Intermediate SQL Database Administrator at Polar Asset Management managing SQL Server and cloud databases. Collaborating with developers and data scientists to optimize database performance.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and forecast resource utilization and cost optimization
  • Enhance data quality and data models in our systems
  • Manage user access, roles, and security policies
  • Automate auditing and deployment of database changes
  • Investigate and resolve performance issues and optimize queries
  • Database schema documentation and enforcement according to our standards
  • Assist other team members with DB related tasks

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment
  • Strong T-SQL skills (queries, joins, stored procedures, views, indexes, query tuning)
  • Experience with SQL Server Agent jobs, backup/restore strategies, replication, partitioning
  • Good understanding of database normalization, indexing strategies, and transaction isolation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic programming skills – Python and C# preferred, with ability to read code to understand how it interacts with the database and help diagnose production issues
  • Familiarity with Windows Server, basic networking concepts, and monitoring tools
  • Experience with automation frameworks, simple REST APIs, or ETL tools is a plus
  • Experience in financial services is a plus
