About the role

  • Cyber Security Co-op analyzing threats, data, and intelligence for RBC, Canada’s largest bank. Supporting detection, threat hunting, reporting, and security knowledge management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform exploratory analysis on various data sources and employ statistical techniques to improve detection of potential cyber threats
  • Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns
  • Present information using data visualization techniques
  • Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges
  • Undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data
  • Share intelligence findings and reports with communities of interest and partners
  • Update intelligence knowledgebase and threat profiles as needed
  • Proactively search for threats and suspicious behaviour within the enterprise
  • Develop and maintain process and procedure documentation and stay current with the threat landscape

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on computer science, technology, engineering, business analysis or equivalent
  • Leadership acumen and passion to apply it in a dynamic business environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong MS Office skills, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience or understanding of open-source software frameworks such as Hadoop
  • Experience or understanding of data visualization tools such as Tableau and Splunk
  • Experience or understanding of databases such as SQL and/or VBA
  • Ability to research and analyze security threats
  • Prior experience in data integration of disparate data sources (nice-to-have)
  • Knowledge of current analytics technologies, architecture, data warehouse concepts and methodologies (nice-to-have)
  • Relational database concepts and design experience (nice-to-have)
  • Ability to learn and absorb new business and systems concepts quickly (nice-to-have)
  • Understanding of incident handling, forensics, Risk Assessment & Quantification methodologies, automated security monitoring systems and log correlation (nice-to-have)
  • Microsoft Windows and Unix Operating Systems basics (nice-to-have)
